Those working with patients in practices across Auckland have been keen to share their experiences of working as part of the Te Tumu Waiora programme and the positive impact it has had for those accessing the service.

Friday 31 May, 2019 - Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern thanks those involved in development and implementation of Te Tumu Waiora pilot. Addressing staff and stakeholders the Prime Minister highlighted that positive patient outcomes from the programme were the inspiration behind a commitment in the 2019 Wellbeing Budget to fund a front line mental health support programme in primary care.

A mental health pilot running at Auckland University is providing early intervention for students needing help with stress.

Since December last year, more than half the students who disclose distress have had same day follow-ups with a psychologist to discuss what is troubling them.

Janice Brown is the head doctor at student health across the University's three campuses.

Health Ministers’ Visits

Hon Dr David Clark and Associate Health Minister Hon Jenny Salesa visited Mangere Health Centre to learn more about the innovative pilot delivering timely early intervention for people across the spectrum of mental health and addiction need.

The new model is delivering significant improvements, and both patients and GPs say the programme has potential to significantly improve primary mental health services in New Zealand.
